Male HDMI to USB - Windows 10 multiple monitor support

I am wondering if it is possible to convert HDMI to USB.
My laptop does not have a USB-C port.

I have an HDMI cable coming from a monitor.  It plugs into an HDMI to USB-C converter.  Then I have a USB-C to USB adapter it plugs into.  Then I plug the USB connector into a USB port on my laptop.  But Windows 10 display settings will not detect this additional monitor.

Is what I am trying to do possible with USB?

I know that using the other laptop that did have USB-C ports the HDMI to USB-C adapter works and the monitor displays just fine.

But converting that from USB-C to USB does not seem to work.

tom, what is the pc model?
As @nobus had previously requested please provide PC model information for the laptop without usb-c

I'd be surprised if there's not a display port of some type  - (DVI / HDMI / VGA / Display-Port / Mini-usb-c etc)

It is a HP Pavilion

There is an HDMI port in use by one of the external monitors.

This post is about a second external monitor that also has an HDMI cable, but no USB-C port to plug into.

It sounds like USB-A just won't support monitor output.

So I am guessing that there is no such thing as a HDMI to USB-A converter, and if there was it wouldn't work anyway.

This seems to be my Windows 10 OS recognizing the fact that the USB-A to USB-C signal that is outbound from the laptop is underpowered.  You can't output from a USB-A and power a USB-C (is my understanding from the above posts)

You can get a HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter but I can't say how well it'll work. Especially with 8GB ram
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?id=pcat17071&st=usb%203.0%20to%20hdmi

If you're planning on keeping the laptop for a while, you might want to consider upgrading the ram, however it does appear to max out at 16GB.

I may take a look at the HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter route.

Not sure if I will be upgrading the RAM quite yet.  How much would it cost, do you know?

There is another option I want to explore.  I do have the one HDMI port (on the other side of the laptop) ... it is what is outputting the display to the one monitor.  Is there a way to output the signal coming out through the HDMI port such that I can extend my desktop across both monitors?

For example ... some sort of HDMI hub ... one end plugs into the HDMI port on my laptop.  Then there are 2 HDMI ports (one for each monitor) that allow me to split the display NOT mirror it.

I was able to find such a hub for USB-C.  It worked for about one week then it died.  So I know that USB-C can split the signal in that manner.
Is the "SS" symbol next to the USB symbol an indicator that the port is USB 3.0?

A 16GB Kit (2x8GB) for your Pavilion 17-g121wm will be around 87.00 at Crucial - https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr3/ct2kit102464bf160b/ct7876797 - (Not including tax / shipping, etc)

You can try a hdmi dual monitor splitter but I've never used them so like the USB suggestion, I can't say how well it'll work

For the most part yes... .SS = "Super Speed"
According to the manual your laptop has an HDMI port
Ports HDMI version 1.4 supporting 1920 ×1200 @ 60Hz
Hot Plug/unplug and auto detect for correct output to wide-aspect vs. standard aspect video
RJ-45 (Ethernet, includes link and activity lights)
USB 3.0 (1 on left side, one on right side)
USB 2.0 (1 on left side)
AC Smart Pin adapter plug
Headphone jack/Microphone jack

Look on the other side or in the back.
the image you posted is for connectors on the left side of your laptop when you are facing the screen.

on the right side of your laptop when you are facing the script, the port before the air vent for the CPU cooler is the HDMI port.

@arnold

The OP is aware of the location of the HDMI port.  He's looking to setup dual display and only has the one display port
Ken, Dual outside the laptop?
You could use projection if there is a wifi connected ....

The USB 3.0 to HDMI
Checking if there is a usb3 to do/mini do that can drive multiple via an active splitter.

Hp often has an extender option, mimics a docking station which might provide additional multi-monitor handling.
Here is an example of an hp dock extender. See if it fits what you are trying to end up with.
If suitable, unplug the USB 3 connection and the laptop good to go.
On return, plug-in. The expansion to which the monitors remain connected.

Arnold, It appears so,  yes
there are many pavilion models - you should post the exact model number ( it can be on the underside, or even in the battery compartment
or you Use the BIOS :   HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support
Turn off the computer. Press the Power button, and then immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until a startup menu displays. Press the F1 key or select System Information from the Startup Menu. The product information displays.

I misread your post. I thought you were looking for the part number

Is there a way to extend the display of my laptop to 2 additional external monitors via the HDMI port?
You can extend to one using the hdmi port.
hDMI is not splitable into two distinct, but you could display the same information in both, or multiple monitors using duplicating splitter.

Or a Yspkitter.

Let's try it this way. You got eother the usb3 to hdmi or the hp dock/expander ....
So now you gave three the laptop screen and two external monitors.
Do all three have the same data displyed or each one has unique depiction?

Once each monitor is attached, right-click on desktop, screen resolution
Then you should have a view where you gave three monitors which you can right-click and enable/activate and then select whether you want the desktop extended or another from the drop down.
Repeat for the other.
Click on the identify and arrange the screen order on the screen that matches the physical kaput. You can move the displays either within the display settings or move the actual screens.

Laptop screen, screenA, screenB

Whether it is 1,2,3 or 1,3,2
If you have wifi connected smart TVs you can project onto them if they support it.
If you have android based smart tv, you can use chromcast ..

A network cable can be used with two special converters to run a display output via HDMI through the device into a cat5/6/7 cable that is then goes into a device that reverses the process.

How "well" does it work?  It would be something like this?

NO it will not bhe using the Network port.

The tool is to convert HDMI port from the laptop. through the adapter over the ethernet cable to the adapter that feeds the monitor.

Deals with distance and cost of 100' hdmi cable

I eventually found an HDMI to USB3.0 converter.  It works most of the time.  I think there is a driver issue.
