Photos from Android phone to pc

It appears that my phone is locked.
This video does not seem to match our phone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrGh6BkwocE
The goal is to move photos from phone to pc.
Any help?
--------------
And here are other steps we started with but aborted.
First, connect your phone to a PC with a USB cable that can transfer files.
  1. Turn your phone on and unlock it. Your PC can’t find the device if the device is locked.
  2. On your PC, select the Start  button and then select Photos to open the Photos app.
  3. Select ImportFrom a USB device, then follow the instructions. You can pick the items you want to import and select where to save them. Allow a few moments for detection and transfer.
Make sure the photos you want to import are actually on the device rather than in the cloud. Then, follow the steps for your type of device.

Android devices

  • You might already have the camera app on your phone in sync with cloud storage such as OneDrive or Google photos. If so, your photos and videos are automatically uploaded to the cloud. When you want to access these photos or videos from your PC, you can use a web browser to download the photos and videos stored from the cloud storage.
  • For recent photos, use the Your Phone app from Microsoft Store. With this app, you also do not need a USB cable to view and copy the most recent photos from your camera and screenshot folder. This feature only includes recent photos and doesn’t import videos. Your Phone app requires an Android phone with Android OS 7.0 or newer.
  • If you use a USB cable to download directly from your device, you might need to change the USB setting to transfer media or photos. For Google's current info, see Transfer files between your computer & Android device.

So did  you unlock the phone or not? If you can't unlock the phone, you can't unlock the memory. It's how it works.

.............The cable is for charging. I don't know about data or how to check the cable for data.

If you plug the powered phone into your PC using a USB data cable is it recognized by the PC?
...............yes but with the error you see in the image above. That's the same screen I get when moving photos from my digital camera. Behind  "something went wrong" is what I get when I move photos from the camera.

What is the brand and model number of your phone? We can assist you for the instructions to unlock the screen of your phone.

If your phone recognized by the PC, double click the phone icon in Windows File Explorer app and you will see empty storage if the screen if your phone is locked.
The phone is locked if you can't use it (pin code or similar is needed)
The phone is unlocked if you can use all apps etc.

Motorola e5 play

In the apps was Moto. In there was a setting to allow the phone to access photos. I said ok and still get the message seen in the image above so maybe it's the cable?

Power button action no good.

The screen has the lock at the bottom. With glasses that lock icon shows the lock to be unlocked. There is only one message: "device will stay locked until you manually unlock" Nothing to show how to unlock and the only PIN number I have is to the voicemail.

The lock appears open.

If you have no password or PIN, you can still remove the password or PIN by factory reset and re-use your phone but all data inside will be wiped.

Do you want to proceed?

I turned the phone off. Then pressed and held the power button and got nothing for maybe 20 seconds and then the normal screen came on indicating that the power button pressed and held did not result in the expected result. If that was a way to unlock the phone it failed.

Why is it locked at all when transfer of photos is basic.
I have over 100 important text messages stored on this phone.

I swiped down and got into what you see here but mine did not have "USB charging this device"

I have another phone made by ZTE. I had to do a factory reset on that one and data was not lost.
------------
The photos to move were test photos by using the phone's camera to take a photo of a color slide. The image looks good. I have another phone and the data on that phone is almost zero and I can reset that phone or retake the photo with the ZTE phone. It uses the same cable as the Motorola though.

The other phone I'll try is a ZTE Quest 5

I got the photo sent to my pc via email on the 2nd phone. (LTE).
I plugged the phone into the USB post and did get a choice of settings and I chose "files" vs. charging. Without reset.
I had to use Google Photos to open the photos and finally a way to "save as" to get the photo where we wanted so it can be edited, etc.
-------------------
On the other phone I used Google Play to look for Google sync and saw several snycs but not related to photos.

Let me find a formula to calculate the solution to this question. Paul's latest comment was the last used to search and look around.

Pressing power button did not solves it. Nor did password or PIN number. Dragging down from the top was not it. Unlock was not it.
"did get a choice of settings and I chose "files" vs. charging "
On some versions of Android, that pops up automatically.  On others, you have to swipe down to find the setting.  I'd not be in the least bit surprised if there are several other variations!

Since the photos were sent by email and not by uploading from the phone via the USB cable, the original question requires unlocking etc.
We don't take many photos at all so sending them by email works fine.

you should be able to access your email account from your PC - not just from your phone

thanks.

Since the new phone has very little data of value we may try a reset and hope to solve the issue with the USB cable.

Are there cables that can be bought that are used for file transfer and not charging?
The market for that is extremely small, so, the answer is no.
The cheapest can charge, no data.
But "normal" cables will always do both.
