Thinkpad T540p replaced touchpad without fingerprint reader not working

Thinkpad T540p with problematic touchpad.  75% of the time it would only provide right click action (from both left and right clicks).  Keypad had some issues with keys not working properly on rare occasion.  Originally this laptop had the fingerprint reader.  The replacement parts came from a T540p with broken screen that has been stripped for parts.  Parts have not been tested.  Installed the keypad and touchpad replacements, and they keypad works great!  The trackpoint doesn't work at all, and neither does the touchpad.  Everything is still enabled in the BIOS.  I have removed the device for the synaptics touchpad and scan for new hardware, but nothing is ever detected.

Have you tried re-seating the connections for the keyboard and touch pad?

What was the issue with the original parts?  Why did you replace the keyboard and touch pad)??

Double check the connection where that ribbon cable goes in. You have to slide the plastic piece in place to lock it down. It may be loose or the cable itself may be damaged.

I will test with Ubuntu asap.
I reseated all cables as first attempt to determine problem before posting online.
The old touchpad about 75% of the time would act as a right click for both the right and left click physically.
Keypad worked most of the time, but not always.  The replacement keypad works 100%.

Trackpoint (seperate cable from keypad) and touchpad (no fingerprint reader) are not detected in Ubuntu and neither therefor work.

then the conclusion is a BAD trackpad

But why does the trackpoint not work either, and that is part of the keypad?

Not worth the money to stick more parts into this laptop.  We have the new laptop on order for the client.  Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

LOL, it is a bit far for me to drop it off.  I have been working on computer hardware for 25 years.  I am used to be the guying that gets these questions.  But it is nice to have people like you (nobus) that share knowledge and an interest in helping others.  Lenovo suspects it is a bad motherboard.  I will save the touchpad for a future T540p repair (I support probably 60-70 still in service).
