To understand, when a cell in column H is selected, the cell gets the string and columns A to H on that row are highlighted? Rather than when selected, would it be better to have the change on a double click? The highlight could be Conditional Formatting based on the value of column H if that is an option.

Got distracted but was working on a non-VBA option for you. See attached. In cells H2:H20, Data Validation with option of blank or "Priority", use drop down to select value ort press delete.
