We've seen this issue, and it's either not good quality 6 or 6A cable, or compatibility issues with physical ports on switch.<br />

You are correct, there is no force setting and only Auto Negotiate, and it should Auto at 1GBe if 1Gbe physical connection.

That's Drivers &amp;&nbsp;Firmware and is a very common problem with ESXi.<br />
<br />
First place to check is HCL to check your server is on the HCL, and that can be an issue with SuperMicro servers, and next time time to discuss with the Vendor Supermicro.

Both the server and the integrated Broadcom NIC are on the HCL... Will reach out to supermicro<br><br>In the meantime have procured a 10Gb Switch that does the job.

Issue is connecting those 10Gb NIC to 1Gb switchs while running ESX. They would not communicate (tried various brands). No problem under Ubuntu with same hardware.<br>10Gb to 10Gb works in ESX.

Connecting 10Gb NIC to 1Gb LAN (Copper, Supermicro server)

Servers are computing devices that are similar to desktop computers in that they have the same basic components, but are significantly different in size, configuration and purpose.
