Restoring Hard Drive

I removed a 1TB Hard Drive from old laptop that I want to use as and external storage device because I hear that Flash Drive wear out faster that a Hard Drive. This Hard Drive isn't working and I thought that I could reformat it to get it to work. According to the label the Hard Drive is a Toshiba MQ01ABD100 and it says that it is from 2013. What do you think? Is it worth it of too dangerous to worry about?

being some 8 years old it is out of warranty and not worth keeping if you are starting to have issues with it

Is it worth it of too dangerous to worry about?

i would replace it

That was mainly true in the earlier days.

An 8 year old drive that's exhibiting issues should be replaced.  It's only going to get worse.
to start - it is a 5400 RPM drive - so very slow
how did you diagnose it is not working?  - did you connect it to a sata cable on a pc, or over usb ?
does the drive spin up? is it seen in the bios?
that is the info we need to tell you  what to do
