Windows 10 command:"logonserver" returns [computername] instead of domain controller name

Windows 10 command:"echo %logonserver%"    
returns
[computername]
instead of domain controller name

I saw this was happening so I unjoined the computer from the domain and rejoined it.
There was no change in the result.

What beyond might be done to fix this?
The computer is showing in the appropriate OU.
