Flashstick no longer accessible

I friend called in a panic because he can't access data on a USB SanDisk Cruz Blade flash stick
He is seeing:
"No Microsoft Volume" Device Descriptor Request Failed
And
Computer / Disk Management Report, "No Media"
However, the "SanDisk Cruz Blade USB Device" does show up in Devices under Drives

He has access to both a Windows 7 & Windows 10 Systems

When this happens with USB External Drives I just pull the drive and and connect directly to the computer. However, what can he do in this situation?

Thanks in Advance

It could have died.
Attaching it to your system and then running the getdataback or test-disk.
If the USB controller fried/died or the logicboard between the USB and the storage ..

The short answer, it seems only possible option is to send it to a data recovery firm.
If your or the person's system does not see the underlying storage resource the only way is to have those with the know how replace the failed link, potentially the data access controller on the device.

Nothing is forever, so having multiple backups.

USB flash stick is designed for temporary data storage for transfer of data from one computer to another only.

Besides, you need to safely remove it in your OS before you physically remove the flash stick from th computer.

Finally, the USB flash stick have to be removed after use and not attach to your computer permanently as on every cold boot of your computer, you might damage the USB flash stick.

Hi Jackie Man. You are totally preaching to the choir. My reply to him originally started out with exactly the same things you said. However, I decided not to kick him when he was already down and just promised I'd post the question here to see if someone could think of something we missed.
