My imagination is - as access denied is usuably a relyable error message - that is something to do with a service account? The Volume Shadow Copy provider should usually run on the W 2012 devices. So I would expect that the service accounts of your software needs the permission to acces the VSS provider. <br><br>Have you tried to give this service account more permissions to see, if this is the issue?

So, software companies mostly get aware about issues, if their customers starts complaining. They usually test their software for the most common use cases (i.e. Microsoft Updates or what ever their customers do). But they cannot test really everything. Maybe they do not have a lot of customers with a simliar configuration. <br>Just my imagination. <br><br>But fine that you found solution, so time to close the question now :-)<br><br>

Hi, ok this is my setup.

VM Server running Server 2012 - Local backup to NAS box
Netgear NAS box.
MSP360 software to backup to NAS box.
We have cloud backups to MS Azure which are working ok.
Backups to the NAS box from the MSP360 software will not go through and prompt the following error.....
The VSS object was in an incorrect state for the requested operation.

VSS errors when trying to backup to NAS box

Windows Server 2012 is the server version of Windows 8 and the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2012 is the first version of Windows Server to have no support for Itanium-based computers since Windows NT 4.0. Windows Server 2012, now in its second release (Windows Server 2012 Release 2) includes Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter, and does not support IA-32 or IA-64 processors.
