I uninstalled SSMS and attempted to reinstall SSMS. Now getting these errors in my event viewer when reinstalling SSMS or attempting to run SSMS.

I would assume, you should add the user account, which has startet the setup to the sysadmin role of SQL Server.

Thank you Bembi for your reply - My first statement above is a little miss leading after re-reading it. SSMS is not on my laptop. I uninstalled SSMS and attempting to re-install SSMS. I am getting the error on the re-install.

Do you have MS SQL express on the machine? Sometimes, if you have other software like Active Dir, it could lead to issue that you cannot install or uninstall SQL server properly.

Thanks Peter, I have SQL Server Developer install and not SQL Express. I am working on installing SQL Express to see if that works.

yes, I understood, but I meant the machine on which you want to install it as well as the account which you use to install it.
For installation purposes you should usually be local admin (on the machine) as well as having the sysadmin role in SQL.

Did you reboot the computer after you uninstalled it? Did you clean up leftover folders in C:\ProgramData and C:\Program Files? Do this and then try it again.
Did you run the setup as administrator?
