Google file stream takes too long to sync

I am using Window 7 Ultimate and Google File Stream. Supposedly it doesn't need any local space, all the files are on the cloud, right? But why it need sync and while it is doing so, it downloads lots of file to local (though I don't know where the are going to get stored on my local drive). Any my local drive space is around critical now the it seem taking forever copying large google file folders to local disc drives. Right now it stuck at "downloading .."  See:

See I am not doing anything.. why "downloading" needs to be part of "syncing"
process?  Apparently it stuck here.. never really going to finish the alleged "donwloading"
How can I make the Google File Stream to appear faster, if at all it does appear 10mins later every time?
Thanks

File Stream is the application that syncs your computer to Google Drive.
Supposedly it doesn't need any local space, all the files are on the cloud, right? Wrong

Google File Sync is the replacement for Google Drive (personal) for Gapps Enterprise

select the files/folders you want to sync or you will get it all

Thanks David,
Never heard about Gapps Enterprise, but anyway, now Google File Sync. Is it the "Google File Stream"?
I am still confused about the names. If "Google Drive" refers what my files on the clouds, physically, as it is
mapped to a drive letter G:, where are my local files, as you seem to imply their existence ? Can I reach them in a directory?

I got it, thanks, if you mean the "Local cached files directory". I had it set to an external drive folder Z:..\content_cache, sometime ago and ignored it since. Looks like these are the files  d0 - d60 managed by google file sync app, not supposed to be edited manually, right?

Thanks
