remote access software what is recommended?

I would like to use remote access software to help family and friends who have computer problems.
I used to use team viewer but they have applied a surcharge of over 600$ annually for a license.
What is remote access software that is affordable?
Also, Windows 10 Pro provides that service but I have Windows 10 Home.  If I go that route
does Windows 10 Pro have to be on both computers?  Thanks.

You're not clear about what you're talking about with "Windows 10 Pro provides that service" - Do you mean Remote Assistance?  Forget remote assistance, use Quick Assist:

This might solve the problem.  I will give it a try tomorrow. Thanks a lot for helping me
with this problem.  How does it work with the person who I am helping re their PC?
Do I have to install anything on their PC?

Thanks a lot Lee.  I will check that tomorrow.  It looks doable to me.  I will let you know.

Try Anydesk below. It is stable and good to start, instead of Teamviewer.

Hello There

Well, you can still use TeamViewer for free. Install the free version on your computer and run TeamViewer QuickSupport on the remote computer (you don't need to install anything).
Another option is using the built-in Quick Assist. No need to install anything on both computers.

you said "I would like to use remote access software to help family and friends who have computer problems. "  that's exactly what i do with Teamviewer. when they blocked me, i told them it was only personal use, and they checked my activity and let me continue without charge.
That of course may depend on the number of uses you have
