I have an Active directory servers. We used to have Exchange. we moved to the cloud when the exchange server get hacked and crashed fatally after Microsoft failed even to get it re-installed. So, we moved to the Office365, create the users there and uploaded PST files extracted from the Exchange database.
so, the users are managed separately on both location, on premises and on the cloud.

Server 2016 has the role of installing Windows Server Essential Experience. I heard that you can mange users from the premises and sync their password, so it will be one identity.

My question here users on the premises has the login domain\username while on office365 they have their email as the login.
How the Essential Experience will handle that. it cannot sync any user since the username is not the same. Do i have to do something on the premises servers for the UPN setup?
