Convert a physical server/workstation to a virtual one

I'm trying to convert a physicial workstation to a VM workstation without having to reinstall the entire platform.  I thought there was a tool VM-converter however, I can't even install it.  does anyone know what I need to do in order to convert a physical box to a virtual one?  It's a windows box.  Also and most importantly will it upset the physical boxes ability to work until I have it set up?

The product is called "VMware Converter." or VMware vSphere Standalone Converter.

What error message do you get ?

Also the operating system you are trying to convert, what is it ?

Also was the operating system supplied with the server or workstation e.g. is it OEM ?

I finally got it to install.  However, Do I need to create a new virtual machine before I convert this or does this create like an ISO and will it do anything to the physical box?  It's a windows 10 machine and its used as a gateway router with software to send images at night to an outside source via a vpn tunnel.
