So if your DNS Server is a different VM than your other VM, it must a different IP, for example 192.168.1.1<br><br>Also make sure your VM's are on a different network from your Host. If you host also has something like 192.168.1.xxx, then change the IP's of your VM's to something like 192.168.2.xxx

Bridged == it gets an ip address from your local network i.e. your routers DHCP server <br />
NAT &nbsp;- it uses its own DHCP server &nbsp;and all of your VM's have external (Internet) access but are isolated from other computers<br />
Host only - the VM's are on their own network.. you supply the DHCP server and everything sles &nbsp;NO access to the Internet only the host machine and VM's on this network.

Okay, to create your Lab, you WILL need to do the following.<br />

1. Set the VM network to NAT not Bridged, this will allow all communications to be in the NAT network and it will not affect your Production LAN and Family setup.<br />

Okay, so if your VM is set now to NAT.<br />
<br />
Select VMware &gt;&nbsp;Virtual Network Editor &gt;&nbsp;Change Settings &gt;&nbsp;Edit VMNet8 - Untick Use Local DHCP Server.<br />
<br />
This will then Disable the VMware Workstation DHCP Server.<br />
<br />
Then you need set an IP Address in the range which is shown, I would recommend 192.168.x.1 for your Windows 2016 Server.<br />
<br />
That's it assign that IP Address as static in the VM and you are setup and ready.

You assign a DNS IP Address to your computer, based on what ever IP Address is serving DNS requests.<br />
<br />
If your server is also a DNS and DHCP server, then it would make sense to also use the same IP Address as your server as your DNS server.<br />
<br />

It's best practice to have at least 2 DNS servers.
