How to write the bash script to archive those directories for 6 months?

This is using SuSE SLES 12. Currently, we are using netbackup to backup those directory to tape. Now, we bought a SAN Storage, and want to change to store these archives to it.

This is how our current backup work.

   1. At first the script will look for the relevant folders in /abc/dat/. We use epoch time to decide which folders have to be copied over to a holding directory - /misc.backup/abc/dat/ folder
   2. After that, the script triggers the netbackup bpbackup to backing up every folders in holding directory to the tape.
   3. Upon successful tape backup, all contents in holding directory will be removed.

Using NetBackup, all these archives are taken care by the NetBackup backup policy, such as, retention period, volume pool. But, how about if we store these archives to a SAN storage? how do we build a catalog to keep track on these archives?

The archive is creating once per day, and preferably to create a folder with that day's date. So, is that possible to run a script to archive this?

Thanks in advance.
