Printing to a PDF in Excel, it takes about 5-10min for it to complete.
If selecting Adobe Printer in Excel, you get prompted with a dialog message that says "Accessing Printer". You will then need to wait about 5-10min for the print job to complete even if the Excel file is very small.
Why don't you simply save as pdf from Excel then print.
Hello,
I throwed out Adobe years ago, just using a Print To PDF from Nuance.
One possibility may be the resolution, 200 / 300 dpi is usually enough. If this is set, then there is another issue / setting. Possibly you see something in the event logs?
And as Roy already said, newer Office Versions are also capable to create also PDF.
If both isn't an option / resolution, you may post the setting for the Adobe printer.

I will try changing the resolution to 200/300 dpi but we have tried printing directly from Office to a PDF and it crashes Excel. I will let you know my results when changing the dpi settings.
