Clearing out old unused files on a MacBook Catalina

I need to quickly clear out old files, as I approach the end of my available disk space. I am not a big fan of external disks, and need to reduce the footprint on disk.

I have lots of content I have created and fear using such a tool may remove things important to me.

Suggestions on a tool?

I know there are image and videos downloaded over many years of use, that have zero value.

Thanks.

Btw: when you look in the Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Storage - what parts are taking up the storage?

Oh, great advice.

I do take frequent TimeMachine backups and I have Carbonite. So, I have little risk of losing data due to a crash. But, I suspect too much of the disk is filled with junk.

I do have multiple copies of the same file, so that may be a great place for me to start.

Videos that I created, stored multiple times. Photos I have taken, stored in a handful of places around my disk.

I do like David's idea. That would spare me tons of space, and may be something I need to consider. Start fresh.

Are there tools that can help me find duplicates? Or do I need to struggle through that, on file at a time?

I suppose I could search the whole disk and sort by file-size. Then, look for dups and handle accordingly...

Any tools that could help this? Also, I do hope for a tool that can help identify files unused for a very long time.

Thanks.

I remember you asked this question a couple of weeks ago:

For that earlier question, you had chosen all but one comment as answer to your question, why did you do that and now ask the same question again? Was it not answered earlier?
