You shouldn't need to backup the OS itself, as that can be reinstalled when you boot up to recovery mode directly from the device. Often you can also download newer Official ROMs from the Manufacturer & install that.

this phone will have a plan to AUTOMATICALLY update to another OS, this is the concern!

If you then have to restore the OS those Apps get reinstalled once you have logged in to your GMail Account again.

google put everything to the google cloud automatically you meant ?
Upgrading to a newer OS version doesn't matter here. The installed Apps stay, although there may be updates for those too. It is similar to Windoze PC's, if the a new Windoze 10 Build gets installed, the programs you had installed still stay there.

Google stores your Data in the Cloud if you have a GMail account. The apps themselves aren't stored in the Cloud, but the Apps you installed via Google Play are marked as "Installed & Registered", & if you need to install the OS from Scratch, they can get reinstalled automatically again (although, as far as I know, you can choose to leave out those Apps you decide you no longer need).

Fort a backup/restore of almost all user data on Android you might want to have a look at MyPhoneExplorer (https://www.fjsoft.at/).

Does not back up OS, but almost everything useful can be synced to PC and/or backed up/restored.

It's free and works well for me across various Android suppliers and cersions.

nonono, it is about TOTALLY different OS, like android to china harmony 2.0

I have gmail account registered ....

DonConsolio ,

not about user data, I can use Huawei Tools for that but it is about what is my phone reinstall with Harmony 20 and it CHANGE my android totally \ ??

Although Harmony is based on Android, I don't know how it's App Store is Compatible with Google Play, or whether the same Apps will even be supported & Available, & whether they use the same installation format. You'll have to think of China & it's great internet Wall too. You may have to use Chinese Apps that disclose all of your personal data & Habits to the Chinese Authorities. It may be a different situation outside of China, there the Apps may be more usable & safer to use, but that isn't yet known.

If I were you I'd stay away from the Harmony OS, at least until more details about it's security & it's App Store is known.
Although Harmony is based on Android
they are not going to say yes !

I don't know how it's App Store is Compatible with Google Play

some of my friend tested that and try as Huawei AUTOMATICALLY upgrade the WHOLE platform for them, and it is good that ALL works fine !

all existing apps works fine (this is what they tell customers, and it is true now !)!

not that serious yet !

I worry about there are no chance for me to stay away from it , so I want to back everything BEFORE this happen.

how can I backup the WHOLE thing include the OS.
As I said, you can't back up the OS. But the Recovery mode allows you to reinstall the Original OS. I doubt that image will be replaced by the upgrade. But you should still be able to download the Android ROM from the manufacturer's site so you can install that if necessary. You should just do that before they decide to remove it from their site.

Besides that, you can always look for custom Android ROM's for your device you could install.
Can you tell me exactly about the in-app data you want to protect / backup?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup

Titanium Backup app can do the task you want as it can backup the apps and the in-app data.

But, you need to root your Android phone first if you want to install Titanium Backup app and you need to unlock the bootloader of your Android phone before you can root it.

The good news is that technically, you can unlock the bootloader of your phone but the bad news is you need to contact Huawei for the unlock code. I am not sure Huawei will give you the unlock code.

Furthermore, it is not sure whether you can restore to the old OS via the backup after the old OS has been replaced with the new OS.

need to call huawei then..

where can I found that for my home ? probably has to call hauwei on this again.

You shouldn't need to call them to download the ROM. Normally you can download the ROMs via the Website somewhere under Support. You just need to make sure the ROM is for the correct device.

Also Custom ROMs shouldn't require a call to Huawei. Just doe a search on the Web for "Custom Rom huawei mate 20". XDA Forums is usually a good site for such things.

If you have to call Huawei, then it may be to get a Code so you can unlock the Bootloader. But that usually gets explained on those sites where you can download the custom ROMs.
A gentle reminder for you.

Custom ROMs might not be compatible with your phone and you need to read extensively to find out the compatibility issue.
I want to protect the whole android OS+ apps + apps data.

It is unlikely that you can do the above as you cannot create a recovery image like what you do for a computer. You need to prioritize what apps and their data are critical for your recovery.

The official way to backup Huawei phone is to download and install HiSuite in your Windows PC.

https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/hisuite/

I have this one already but seems only backup data and setting.

any URL say this SW can backup the whole Android image?

I called Huwai, it should have 1 x LAST version of OS for us to rollback!

then we just backup data + app, that should be it.
tks all.
