I agree with the above. Also, you usually want to monitor devices like APs, switches, etc. so go with the static IP addresses.

I'd also use static IP's for devices you need to connect to. But I'd use the DHCP server to reserve those IP's for those devices. That way everything is centrally managed &amp; the chances of using an IP twice for different devices is lower.

I would say it depends. Generally, I agree with David, however for Access Points that use a controller (or most other types of device that use a dynamically-learned central administration point), I'm not too bothered if they use a reserved IP or not. They are managed from a single window so knowing the IP is largely irrelevant.

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an auto configuration protocol used on IP networks and an extension of the Bootstrap Protocol. DHCP allows for computers to be configured automatically to communicate with each other over an IP network without the need for manual setup by a network administrator. The implementation of DHCP relies on a DHCP server to hand out network configuration information to DHCP-capable clients that request an IP address (and other information required or useful in communicating with other devices on an IP network).
