How do we add a VLAN \ Virtual switch to our VM vSpere 7.xx Stack

Hi,

We have a VM vSpere 7.xx Stack and what I want to do is place one on the VM on it's own VLAN but I can't quite get my head around it. The Physical machines are on their own switch but use the default VLAN.

I guess I am looking for a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks

Ian

Does it require VM or ESXi server restart?

Hi Andrew,

Firstly thank you

This part I don't understant

"BUT, you also must make sure that that VLAN is presented to the vSwitch via your physical interfaces"

Where is the vSwitch?
Is it inside VM or do I somehow have to physically logon to the physical servers as well?

I am also confused do I need to create a VLAN on the physical switch as well?

Ian

its like the below:

@Ian Price

Yes you must create the vlan on the physical switch. You will also need to tag that new vlan on the switch ports connecting to your esxi host. The port will need to be configured as a trunk in order to tag your original vlan as well as the new vlan you want to use.
@Senior IT System Engineer

It does not require a server restart!
that's great, thanks Andrew.
