Why can I not set up my HP printer?
I am trying to set up my HP Laserjet Pro M118dw printer. It appears to install correctly but says there is no driver available. I am connecting it via ethernet nd also have tried to connect it wirelessly with the same result. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
Connect it via USB. If this succeeds, then the problem *probably* is not the printer. If this fails, then the issue may be the printer, in which case I'd return it and choose something else. Users should not be forced to perform an undocumented song-and-dance routine due to poor setup procedures.
HP printers in general tend to be problematic during setup because they haul in everything plus the kitchen sink and demand to "phone home" to HP via internet. I/M/O, a different brand of printer is a better choice ... any other brand.
Disclosure: I am an (unwilling) HP stockholder, and I despise their printer products.

Not sure whether applicable, do you ow the ip the printer gas on the network, to connect to it.
If not mistaken, you need to make a configuration change there to allow network connection.
If you connect via USB to configure, it blocks network /wifi access.
Use wifi direct to setup ...
A chat session with hp support could get ..
It is somewhere within the manual...

I tried HP "smart", did not work. It told me one of my other printers needed paper but kept saying the HP Laserjet Pro M118dw was offline. In Windows it says it needed a driver. I downloaded the driver from the HP website but when I installed it, it still would not work. I agree with Dr. Klahn that HP printers are problematic. I will try the USB connection.
If not mistaken, there is a setting you have to change via the printer's web config to allow access over the network.
Chat with hp support.
Unless you have the time to scour the quick guide/manual.
