If I set up an email account as IMAP on two Windows 10 computers running Outlook, will email deletions on one PC automatically delete that same email from Outlook on the other PC?
I remember seeing it work this way years ago with Exchange. But over the years all I've ever used is POP3 setups, so before I spend the time to change over to IMAP I'm hoping someone can provide guidance.
And I am under the impression that I don't need to do anything different in terms of configuring this email account with my email provider, true? (We use Network Solutions). I could not find anything about it on their site, so I'm guessing that it all has to do with how the email account is set up on the PCs in Outlook. Is that correct?
TIA

Sasllc:
Many people like me now have two devices a computer and a smartphone.
POP requires a lots of device storage because a local copy of every email is kept on each device.
Because of this, SmartPhones almost always use IMAP.
So I have Bob@Domain.com as be POP on DellDesktop and IMAP on MySmartphone.
I keep my Archive on the email host so I configured POP as follows.
If my internet goes down, I can still see every email on my DellDesktop’s local copy.
If my DellDesktop falls into the ocean, I can restore all email from the email host.
But it can get to be very complicated and many small business would be wise to have a consultant help them with their design.
But, I will assume that you (Sasllc the author of this post) wants to do the design yourself.
Before choosing IMAP or POP or a combination of both you should CAREFULLY DESIGN the whole organization.
I strongly suggest you consider smartphones, email addresses, security and especially archive aspects of the design.
If all 10 of your computers use mailto:support@domain.com then IMAP servers can get very messy.
For instance at midnight a customer might send an email with subject:”URGENT: DANA Call me ASAP!!!”
The next morning another employee might accidentally delete the email so Dana never sees it. POP can fix that problem because a deletion on one device does not affect another device.
I don’t have time to discuss all aspects of design, but here is hypothetical organization layout.
It might give you some ideas of things to consider.
Your 7 person plumbing company is owned by Ms. Mary Supreme and she has 6 agents Dana, Ellis, Grey, Hunter, Lake, and Nash.
All 7 have a windows desktop computers at your Main Street location
The desktop computer names are Desk01, Desk02 … Desk07.
Hunter, Lake use smart phones when traveling. Nash used as laptop when traveling. The device names are (Smart01, Smart02 & Lap01)
INITIAL CRITERIA Email address are as follows
SupremeM@Domain.xyz is for very sensitive things, and very customers or no employees even know it exists.
Complaints@Domain.xyz is also sensitive or customers complaints
6 address like Dana@Domain.xyz are general purpose. Most customers work with Dana, but many customer work with someone else.
All 7 people send emails to mailto:Janitor@Domain.com but only Mary sees them. They are automatically forwarded to Service@ALocalCleaningCompany.com.
Thousands of customers send their plumbing problems to mailto:support@domain.com, so all 7 employees share and have full access to the email.
When Dana is replies to a customer it automatically comes from mailto:support@domain.com but she can override and send from Dana@Domain
