cannot get the Amazon alexa Echo dot to connect to new wifi

After getting a new WiFi, I cannot get Alexa on my Echo Dot to connect to the WiFi.  All of the instructions that I have read about getting it to turn orange are no good, because I cannot get the Echo Device to turn orange.  Help!

Can you describe the steps you are going through and what happens?

the stupid instructions tell me to hold this button or that button for 15 seconds, 20 buttons, 25 seconds, 30 seconds, etc.  Again, no luck.
I don't think that holding "this button or that button" for any specific length of time will get it to connect.  There is more to the process.
such as?  umm.....I ask the question, because that's why I'm here in the first place.  :)
It would be helpful if you were to describe the process you are using and what happens.
I have already done so....I'm being told to hold buttons for "x" number of seconds.
Sorry.. I can't help with such a vague description.  Let's hope someone else can do better than I.

You need to reset your device to its factory settings:
  1. Press and hold the Action button for 25 seconds. The light ring will pulse orange, then turn off.
  2. Wait for the light ring to turn back on and turn blue. The light ring then turns orange again and the device enters the set up mode.

You need to factory reset your Echo everytime you got a new WiFi.

yes, I have already tried everything suggested.  but, nothing works.  that thing will NOT turn orange.  help!!!
Have you connected the power supply to your Echo Dot?
Have you left it disconnected from power completely (long enough for internal capacitance to completely discharge)?
Is the old WiFi still visible to it?
yes, I have disconnected and reconnected power....when I try to change the wifi connection through the app. the app tells me that alexa needs to go orange....I can't make it orange
Disconnect - Wait! - Reconnect?
You will do a factory reset and set it up like a new device.

How?

Remove the power supply and wait for 5 minutes before you reconnect the power supply.

Press and hold the Action button for 25 seconds.

What do you see on the Echo Dot?

If still no go, you can use the web browser of a computer which is connected to your new WiFi network and you setup your Echo Dot as a new device.
I went through all of the articles and the key was to get the Echo Dot near the router, in order for it to enter Setup.  Thank you!
Awesome! Glad you got it resolved! Wish they had a message omit from the Dot stating "router not in range, please review" or some detection router obvious message or light for that like purple or something more apparent.
