Edit snagit video and audio separately in camtasia
I have an MP4 video that I created in the latest version of Techsmith SnagIT that I thought would seamlessly transfer to Techsmith Camtasia, but unfortunately, all I get is the MP4 and what I need are separate tracks.
Is there any free way to accomplish this so that the video and the audio can both be used in Camtasia?

How you do this depends on how the footage was recorded.
1) If each person on recording has their own track assigned, this is trivial.
a) Extract each audio into a separate file.
b) Run audio-normalize or ffmpeg across all tracks to "normalize" their loudness level to the EBUR-128 broadcast standard, so all audio tracks are the same level.
c) Remix the video + normalized audio tracks back into the final video.
2) If you have many people mixed down into a stereoized mono track (both left + right channels are identical) or a stereo track (different people on left + right channel)... then...
Can these people be separated into their own tracks? Yes.
Will it be time consuming + expensive? Yes.
Is their any software that can do a good job of this... without manual editing? Unlikely.
Will audio quality drop very low on finalized/mastered product? Very likely.
Once you've split the audio, you'll run the normalize + remix steps out of #1 above.
3) If you plan on having many people on a recording, arrange for the raw recording to be done using 1x person/track initial recording for best quality + automated leveling/editing/remixing.
4) Can Camtasia or any cheap/free tool do this? Unlikely.
5) If you have 1000s of hours of footage like this to unravel... along with the time/budget/will/expertise
If the number of voices is low + vocal intonation of each speaker unique, you might be able to write a sox or ffmpeg script to pre-process your mixed audio track into separate speakers.
You'll still likely have to review the output of your script + make some... maybe many... manual edits... and if you start with a script, this will dramatically reduce time/clip footage you'll invest to edit each .mp4 file.

Tip: After you work with type of project for a while, you'll start arranging for all your audio tracks to be recorded as 1x person/track, as this saves massive amounts of time + headaches... if at any point in the future, you'll be publishing a recording...
I would recommend checking out Audacity first perhaps per this unsure on whether its current https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/splitting_a_recording_into_separate_tracks.html. I will try to test on a workstation, but I no longer use Camtasia, and its been a few years since I have used their new version\design changes.
