Why does Acronis 2021 hang during antivirus scan?

Acronis TrueImage 2021 "Calculating time re remaining" for many hours.   What is wrong?

Reading the question title, it appears that you're trying to scan the system for viruses and do a full backup at the same time.  Is that correct?
And is this a Windows 10 station?

It is Windows 10 Pro.   It is not trying to do a backup at the same time.   When I launch the program it takes forever to load.
Ok. I fixed your tag from XP to 10.  Is anything else running or open? How long have you used Acronis, or did you just get it? Or it has been faster in the past? Do you see errors in Event Viewer?
Without knowing the internals of acronis this is speculation, but here's what I think is happening:

acronis is scanning the drive, file by file, to find out how much storage is being used -- "Calculating time remaining."  Every time it accesses a file, in comes the antivirus and scans that file.  Posit that it takes 5 seconds to scan a file.  That's 720 files an hour, which is measly compared to the number of files in a Windows system.  It could take days for the complete scan of all files to complete.

Try this:  Turn off the antivirus completely and see if the situation improves.
Addendum:  The behavior described fits the assumed cause, but it can only occur if the system does a full scan on all files on every access.  If acronis is only checking entries in the MFT for size and not actually accessing the files then this is not the cause.
I left the antivirus running overnight.   It was still trying to calculate the time remaining to complete the scan, without the progress bar moving at all.   How can this be normal behavior?
Well, you can always run the standalone backup from the bootable recovery media.  I agree it's not normal behavior, but that's acronis all over.

I/M/O, try Macrium Reflect instead.  I think you'll end up dumping acronis.

I wrote to Acronis informing that there was no need to combine acronis true image software and antivirus software and then call it it Cyber Protect Home, so then users are forced to pay for annual subscription just because the antivirus program was attached to the TrueImage app.  It would have been better if Acronis would have left the TrueImage app alone and called the the cyber protect part of it as Acronis Antivirus App and created it as standalone. The reply from Acronis was "Thanks for your reply" we will let our team know. After that I never heard from Acronis.
