vmware ha with local storage
Hi,
We had two servers destroyed in Hurricane Ida. I am unable to buy network storage but will be replacing two servers which will have local SSD storage. I am hoping move to vmware essentials plus with the two new servers.
Am I able to leverage HA with local storage?

got it. so instead of HA, I think I may be able to leverage Veeam replication between hosts and set the replication to say every two hours (this is ok with the client). I believe I am able to vMotion without shared storage but will need to look into the networking requirements for that.
Is there something built-in to vsphere essentials plus that allows replication between hosts with local storage?
I was looking into starwind and have a demo today but the cost is out of budget. That said, do you recommend / have had success with starwind?
thanks as usual for your advice, Andrew.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to get them to approve the synology. If not, looks like local and replication.
Let me explain a little further, VMware HA (High Availability) is a function which restarts a VM, when there is an uncontrolled shutdown of a host. The FDM Agent on each host will then recognize there is a failed host and restart VMs on other available VMs in the cluster.
Hosts restarting on another Host can only be achieved if all hosts are connected to share storage, where the VMs are available to restart from!
If a host has failed with local storage, those VMs on that local storage are unavailable to be restarted, because that host is dead, and it's storage is not available to the remaining ONLINE hosts to restart those VMs.
NOW it is possible, to use the storage on Hosts as shared storage, and VMware vSAN is one possibility, but requires a license for each hosts and correct storage being purchased.
There are other solutions as well to turn local storage into shared storage, another solution is Starwind vSAN
