Mice is becoming Sticky- When PC is restarted issue gets resolved temporaril

Hi
 
We are having a strange issue happening on our network since the last week, the issue is mice becomes sticky.
When the PC is restarted the issue gets resolved. Again the following day when users login into their PC in the morning, the same issue happens and the mice become sticky.
 
Most of the PC are dell and not sure if a Microsoft update is causing this problem, or a Dell driver updates if it causing problem.
 
Any help to troubleshoot and resolve this issue will be great,

are these mice usb or PS/2, - wired or wireless?
are the pc's laptops? running on docking station or not?
this info should point us a bit in the proper direction
I have also seen the when the mice are sticky,  the sound also becomes distorted on that PC.
The CPU and disk usage on the task manager seems to be fine
I have not tried the safe mode and will try this.
 
I am going to disconnect the machine from the network and will post the results tomorrow,
There are other PCs connected to the network and they are fine.
 
  • Did you run Dell Command update on the station?
       I have not done this
  • Are all W10 updates applied?
        It is applied
  • What model are the PCs or are they all different? Same mice model....
        Different models
  • Try wireless vs wired mouse 
         I will try this
  • What version and W10  build.....
         Version 21H1
  • Make sure you run an antivirus full scan - rule out any network or virus threat 
         My PC says it is fully protected – although issue with mice
  • Try also looking at Event Viewer for error codes in each log section 
         I will try this
  • Possibly install ProcMon also to try to pinpoint errors/capture backend events
         Will try this…

 
It is happening on the desktops and no one has informed me about this issue happening on laptops.

what happens if you disconnect a problem pc from the network ?  is it ok ?

       I have not done this

In addition to what was stated above, I would do this for one station and test.
I disconnected my PC from the network when I left my work and the following morning I came and my PC was ok and I didn't have the sticky mice.
Yesterday evening I connected my PC back to the network and this morning, the mice were sticky and the sound was crackling.

So the problem comes only when the PC is connected to the network.
In my office, i have an 8 Port switch and this is uplinked to another edge switch.
On this 8 port switch, we have 4 windows10 PC connected and only 2 PCs that are connected to this switch have issues of sticky mice and crackling sound and the remaining 2 PCs are ok.

But other places staff PCs are directly connected to edge switches and they also encounter the same issue of
sticky mice and crackling sound.

We have a subnet called Curric and all the workstations are on this subnet.

The afflicted machines have all been swept for viruses and malware at the highest sensitivity of the scanners?

A rogue crypto miner would cause the effects described, and it would do nothing when the network is unavailable.
We do have file servers, SQL servers, printers, etc...
We use Bitdefender antivirus on the network...  and auto scan is set up on the Bitdefender management console  and the PCs get scanned ...
Not sure if all PCs are up to date with virus definitions..

Yes, and it may not appear in the process list.

It is important to run the scan at maximum sensitivity because virus writers know perfectly well that most automatic scans are perfunctory "we have to do this, let's get it over quick" passes across the important files.  Things get caught in full, thorough scans which are not caught in quick scans.
Not sure if all PCs are up to date with virus definitions..
 I would ensure that's checked thoroughly too. 
You may also find this support community case or string of cases from the past interesting. But first, verify there is no malicious activity happening within your environment as Dr. Klahn brought up.


I would ensure you ensure manufacturer updates are completed too. Examine background processes, but not all may be visible or be hidden. You may be able to leverage Process Monitor.
