Is their a word to describe this?

Hi EE,


Grammar query is there a word in the English language to describe the process of when you compacted a series of data points into a single reference point, and that reference point can be used to discover all the data points it was derived from.  


Any assistance is appreciated my apologies for this rather metaphysical question.

The closest I can think of is regression.

But: after "compression" of the data to that single point, there is no reverse operation for extracting the data.

The only thing else, would be a function.

What about Cluster Analysis? It can "compact" objects to which your points belong to.
Maybe it is simple like, Data compaction - Wikipedia

Perhaps expand on the context?

I consider that a type of reverse engineering. For example, in Excel, when you double click on a formula, it will reveal the source data. When you click on a chart, you can click to reveal the data that generated that graph. When I try to figure out how my computer works, I take it apart and examine the pieces. 
If you can tell us more about the scenario, perhaps we can be more specific.
It sounds like Reference Based Sequencing

Thank you for your input. The term I expression I decided upon was; A 'focal point' derived from a data compaction iteration.
