Error adding imap account to Outlook

Hi one of my users is trying to add a connection to a remote (external) mailbox to Outlook using IMAP.  They are getting the following error:

Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP):  The connection to the server failed

Send test email message:  Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server.  If you continue to receive this message your server administrator or internet service provider.

I'm not sure whether there is anything we need to do on our side to get this working.  The users mailbox is in Office 365 and IMAP is enabled for the users mailbox.
