USB harddisk and Data recovery service plan

I bought Seagate hard-disk to attach to server. Company use password protected USB to store some stuff. It has two year rescue data recovery service and has some with some files installed. I want to format it remove those files before attaching it to server. Please advise if data recovery service would get affected. Thanks in advance.
