You best avoid that path. deals with user based shares.

it is better to scan to a folder on a server and on the user's desktop have a short cut to the user's folder on the server

Is the user establishes their own share.

The desktop falls within user profile ....

What happens if the desktop fails.
Server based access is often include additional redunadancy including the scan to folder will work all the time as the server is supposed to be running 24x7 while the workstation might be shutdown. ....

It needs to go strait to the user desktop so it can be uploaded thier OneDrive. This Xerox doesn't support scan to SharePoint and this office has no server.

move the onedrive folder to c:\something and then scan to there

You likely need to use as you confirmed the c:\scam or as David suggested another folder on c:\

then use a powershell script as part of a task that checks on the contents of the folder and copies the data out to the dektop....
or possibly even to onedrive...

This can be done. The issue is likely a setting somewhere

Check your advanced sharing settings

Is the printer profile for the share connection configured to pass a user ID and password?

You'll likely need to for shares within the user space (user home directory)

Additionally if the scan folder on the PC isn't owned by the user, you may also need to add full control permissions for the user
