Chrome cannot connect to existing URL

All of a sudden Chrome decides that this url does not exist: backflowtestreport.com/cpanel. Of course it does, I have used it thousands of times, I go to Firefox & it goes there instantly.

Chrome gives the attached nonsense.

Seems odd I have to use a different browser to go where I want.

Is there a way around this? Is this a bug in Chrome?

Chrome even remembers that exact url in the pulldown list as soon as i start typing "back...".

Why did it work before?

Why can't I expect this problem on other commonly visited pages with Chrome? One of it's POSITIVE features, it remembers your recently visited url's. Or so it used to.

I can't believe they purposely screwed this up.

If I have to go through entering all the full URL's for all my common destinations, I'll switch back to Firefox. Firefox remembered it using Chromes list, I had NEVER gone to that site before in Firefox before this started happening

Something I noticed is that if you search in Chrome's homepage where it says search or enter a URL, the URL works there and also works in the top address bar, but not on the search engine page

What may have happened is that you initially searched from your Chrome Google search homepage and it works there, but not through the search engine page (as shown in the second screenshot)

Homepage Chrome browser Google search engine - works
Upper Top address bar works
Search engine results page - does not work

That cPanel page is not coming up for me through search engine result keyword searches either, so it could be how that page is omitted from search results or indexed possibly the creator of the page made it hidden from search results for Google, so only the URL can be accessed or pulled up too

You can bookmark the pages you need or create shortcuts to avoid typing the full URLs.

It's possible something changed not with Chrome, but with the site pages cPanel's side too in Edge or Bing this is what I see, so varied results as Chrome pulls no results up. You could contact cPanel and mention to this them, but they may tell you to bookmark the page or may be able to make indexing modifications for Google's search results for the cPanel login page. There are 2 ways to get there in Chrome, and bookmarking it would be easiest, I would mention this to cPanel if there is a specific keyword or search or adjustment that can be made for it to appear in the Google search engine results.

Microsoft Edge, Bing

Firefox does not work for me at the bottom of the Google search, but the top address bar does

Bottom doesn't work

Top of Firefox works

Your help has saved me hundreds of hours of internet surfing.

David, see the attached. I get this by typing "Back" in the address line. Note one of the pulldown suggestions gives me backflowtestreport.com/cpanel.

I click that & get the nonsense posted with the original question.

Until about a week ago, it worked fine, JUST LIKE THIS.
Jazz Marie Kaur

Just an example if I input https://www.experts-exchange.com/  instead of the URL I provided I do get results for EE, but the URL you provided does not pull any results for me as well in the Google search engine (not homepage of Chrome) and the same with Firefox (except in the uppermost address bar). I suspect because it's a redirect link.

If something did change, it is NOT necessarily with Chrome, but Cpanel's side could have made modifications so that it does not appear in search results as it once did. You could contact Cpanel to bring this to their attention or if there is a way to do so/keyword to access it via Google search, but I get the same result in both Firefox and Chrome's Google search 0 page results found. You can always pull the URL up in Firefox or Chrome's uppermost search engine box or even on Chrome's homepage  as I show below to get there and it will remember your result or auto-populate as a suggestion.

 OR

Access it from your Chrome's startup homepage which accepts your URL rather than the search engine results page. Do you have the Home icon in Chrome, you can go to: chrome://settings/appearance > toggle the Home button on >

Go back to Chrome > Choose the Home icon > in that search bar or field then input:  backflowtestreport.com/cpanel  and hit the Enter key (it accepts your URL and takes you directly to the page you seek in 1 step and 1 key entry

Each time you go to your Chrome homepage it will go there, that's 1 entry, and hitting the enter key (a few seconds) to get it to take you there

You can make a direct page shortcut also underneath the search bar which is 1 STEP/Click

If you bookmark:
  • https://backflowtestreport.com:2083/ or the URL that way you will never have to manually input it or pull it up in Google's search results. That takes 1 click (1 STEP) once you set up a bookmark and you'll always be able to access it.

chrome changed its behavior in an update you have to adjust your actions

Yes, it could be due to an update as stated above also, so you can use one of the above-mentioned ways to access it for now in 1 step or via shortcut. Sometimes updates break things or change on Google's side too. Depends if it is either the site's side making changes too or Google Chrome.
You could submit a request to CPanel to see if they can get that page back or shown back in search results.
This is something you could read as well: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7474347?hl=en which covers reasons also as to why a page is no longer appearing for a site's search results, that would be something CPanel would investigate though not you and perhaps they could verify if an update broke the search for you that you preferred

They feed me all kinds of complicated, UNNEEDED workarounds. I just want it to work like before.

Hey Richard,

I understand you are frustrated, but this is unwarranted commentary. The problem you are having is as Jazz pointed out to start with, you are used to searching for URL and not putting it directly in the address bar. You're not the only one, many do this.

Nobody here has control over how your browser or panel handles updates.

Also as noted, going to yoursite/cpanel is really just a redirect for yoursite:2083 where 2083 is the port cpael runs on. What I do is put a bookmark that address for my panel and keep it in my bookmark bar in chrome so it is easy to get to not only on my main computer, but for any device where I am logged into chrome.

Sorry, Scott. I’m not buying it this time.

Again, if it worked this way before, what changed to make it NOT work now?

I have NOT been given an answer.

I’ve been with EE for probably 20 years. I hope I don’t see it not being able to address REAL problems any more.

If you don't want to bookmark or create a shortcut to it nor input it in the upper address bar, just a reminder I provided a way from the Home page of Google Chrome search field bar as well that is going to be closest to your original preferred method that used to work as the home start page accepts that URL and redirect link.

I provided steps earlier above on how to access the Home page and each time you open up Chrome that can be your startup page as shown below in my screenshot.  Typo below, sorry Chrome*
