Does mail need to go to a new Exchange 2016 server first in a coexistence scenario with 2013?

I plan on installing Exchange 2016 tomorrow.  This new server will coexist with my Exchange 2013 for a week or two.  One thing I had to do, when I did my 2007 to 2013 upgrade, was redirect mail to go through the 2013 server first.  Then that system would pass the mail through if the user's mailbox was on the 2007 server.  Do I have to do that when I bring the 2016 server online?  Does all mail need to flow through 2016 and be directed by that system to where the user's mailbox is?  Thanks in advance.
