Hi, The search in the lists works based on the Search Service Application. Please make sure the following checks are done. 1. Search Service Application should be working fine and should be in a running state. 2. Make sure the list is available for search in the list settings. 3. Have you checked whether the searching of items is working on other lists? If the above are fine then your search should work like a charm.

I am using SharePoint 2019. &nbsp;If you can confirm where I can check the list settings, I can give you an answer. &nbsp;I believe the answer is yes but I'm a bit rusty on SP administration so I want to confirm I looked in the correct location. 3. Have you checked whether the searching of items is working on other lists? Yes we have checked other lists and the search is not working in those lists either.&nbsp; Thank you!

Hi, there are two (search) services running on the machine which are acting as seach servers. Just try to restart both of them. Search Service may hang due to A.) &nbsp;to less disc space on the search service hard disc... (be aware that the search service downloads several items (depend from the search priority settings) at the same time and stores them temporarily on the search service disc (which is usually the C:\ Drive). Dependend from the items actually fetched at the same time, it can take a large amout of disc space. Dependend from the settings, you should have at least 32 x (8 x with lower priority) of the largest Sharepoint item. Additinally there is a index partition which can be moved out to a separate drive. If you have a default configuration, all data (index partition as well as temporary file cache) resides on drive C:\. Dependent from your SharePoint content, you should have at least 40-60 GB free space on this drive. To validate the disc usage, create a performance monitor for free disc space and let it run for a while. Observing the free space manually is mostly not efficient because indexing depends on actual changes, but you may manually run all search targets with full snycronization to see, how the free space changes. If the free space runs under 100 MB (as I remember), the service may still running, but noxt indexing any more. B.) To less RAM memory At least we raised the RAM memory from 24 GB to 32 GB, as our users pushed large wrong fomatted XML log files into our SharePoint and crawling stopped once a week.&nbsp; C.) Corrupt items This may also be a reason, why the service stops indexing. So observer the error log on the search servers to see, which items may make problems. Most of the errors are espected, but we have seen some parser errors which forced the search service down. We never found the item which really crashed the service, but you should keep an eye on it. But raising RAM and disc space kept the services functional.&nbsp; Summary: Be generous with the resources of your search servers. Especially if restarting the search services solves the issue for a time (be aware that you need possibly a full crawl to make sure, all items are indexed as missed items will not be indexed by a differencial crawl). Whatever you crawl, neither the RAM memory nor the free disc space should run out of resources.

This question is for SharePoint Server 2019.  
I am trying to make the items in a list searchable.
 
At this point we have tried the following to fix the issue:
Indexing the columns
I made the items in my list searchable under the Advanced Settings
I created an empty list, populated it with dummy data, and tried to search with no success.
This was previously working but there was an update done (not sure of what) and this may have stopped the search function from working (still investigating).
