Azure AD Connect

Hi,
Our AD Connect software is currently stuck at 1.4.18.0and for whatever reason has not been auto-upgrading (checked the obvious things as directed in Microsoft documents). It is also running on Server 2012R2 which is not supported post version 1.
My plan is to snapshot the server, manually upgrade to the latest version 1 (I have a copy of the install), export the config, build a new 2019 server, install the latest AD Connect and import the config. Can you see any issues with this plan (1.4.18.0 doesn’t support export config so need to do the upgrade first) ?
My main concern is what is my rollback if my version 1 upgrade fails. Is it OK just to restore to a previous snapshot or I am going to break something fundamental ?
