P2V DC1 when DC2 already ON: Dilemma

I have DC1 which is Physical (let's call it "P") and DC2 which is Virtual (let's call it "V"). I need to convert DC1 from P to V (typical P2V conversion) and for a couple of reasons I must do it while it is ON. The converion was already tested and works as it should. It takes 5,5 hours. I have a dilemma on how to treat this P2V conversion. My concern is about AD sync between DC1 and DC2 during and after conversion. Consider I must do it while DC1 P is ON, so: I'll convert DC1 P, shut it down, turn DC1 V ON. I have the following choices:

  1. Shut down DC2 V, convert DC1 P, shut down DC1 P, turn DC1 V ON, turn DC2 V ON, or
  2. Demote DC2 V to Member SERVER, convert DC1 P, shut down DC1 P, turn DC1 V ON, promote DC2 V as DC, or
  3. No reason to be concerned about AD sync. Convert DC1 P, shut down DC1 P, turn DC1 V ON, or
  4. ...?

What do you suggest?

Recommended NOT to do it, and just transfer the FSMO roles!

Is there a real reason WHY you need to P2V a physical DC ?

The reason why P2V must be done: DC1 runs on a Physical SERVER which must be turned into an ESXi Host (we call it ESXi2). DC1 V will be hosted by ESXi1 which is already UP and running.

Hi Andrew, I've made up my mind and will proceed as you suggest. I can't proceed immediately since the DC1 doesn't hold only the DC Role but some others too (DHCP, DNS, Print SERVER, ...) and I need to move these Roles too to other SERVERs. Thanks.

All those roles are very easily re-created on other servers.

Domain Controllers should only really have DNS, AD and DHCP.

I would recommend using another server as a print server.
