Open Source vs paid ecomm platforms

I'm evaluating three ecomm platforms; Odoo, nopCommerce and Magento.

Odoo and nopCommerce have open source versions. Haven't looked at Magento yet. Might not have an Open Source.

Anyway, my manager said that there's a risk with Open Source that development on the code might stop, go out of business or something. But a paid version of a product is less riskier to go with because the company/product is more established.

I don't think that's a valid point.  I'd like to hear other thoughts on it.
