Google Big Query - Using an alias in a conditional clause

Hi. In Google Big Query SQL when I use the name of a column that has an alias and want to use it in a conditional clause, I cannot use the alias but rather have to use the original column name. Is there a way around this?

GoogleSQL* BigQuery
