Power BI Calculations using measures

Hi

I have a Power BI report that I am trying to decipher. The images below show the dashboard. The top left data is the first part that I am working on. I am looking at the 2019 GROWTH £ which is calculated by the following Measure. I show the other measures that feed this below it. [TOTAL SALES] is confusing. I have included the table relationships in the final image.

I really just need a little help in figuring out how these calculations work.

2019 GROWTH % = DIVIDE([2019 GROWTH £],[TOTAL SALES 2019],0)

2019 GROWTH £ = [TOTAL SALES 2021]-[TOTAL SALES 2019]

TOTAL SALES 2021 = var currentyear = SELECTEDVALUE('CALENDAR'[Year],year(today())) return CALCULATE([TOTAL SALES],'CALENDAR'[Year]=currentyear)

TOTAL SALES 2019 = var currentyear = SELECTEDVALUE('CALENDAR'[Year],year(today())) return CALCULATE([TOTAL SALES],'CALENDAR'[Year]=currentyear-2
