AD Dummy Domain/Controller is it possible

Hi EE,

Is any software out there or method that allows one to create a dummy AD domain that isn't actually 'Joined' at all but still has the capabilities of an AD controller that something like Dell Boomi and interface with?

Sorry for the vague question any assistance is welcome.

Thank you.

Hi Zack,

I suppose that installing a Windows server in a Virtual Machine should allow you to have a domain controller to play/develop with it.

You can download a  180 days Windows  Server version here :

Alternately if you're comfortable with Linux, A Linux VM with Samba as a AD DC should work also
