Mouse behaving like being clicked and double-clicking
Hi Experts!
Strange situation these couple of days. My mouse when left-clicking once, it behaves as double-clicking and when dragging a window it would leave the window halfway like if I clicked on if the noise button. This problem is new never happened before.
What’s the best to deal with this?
(It’s a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 model 1454)
Get a new Mouse. This is typical behaviour when the buttons age. They aren't built for very long usage, & and with time they tend to register more than one click.
does it happen on a different computer? does a different mouse behave fine? how far is the mouse from the system?
i have a similar issue with my wireless mouse and noticed the distance from the transceiver causes problems with movement and dragging. if the mouse is a bit closer, it doesn't happen

I agree with rindi. Yes, the mouse can be opened up, and you can order the SMT snap switches (two month wait, 10 minimum) and unsolder the old switches and install the new switches, and clean the cat hair out of the inside, and it would (probably) work like new. I have done this with an aging, well-loved mouse by cannibalizing the switches off the rear buttons. And then it worked OK for another six months.
But I/M/O for the 20 buck price of a new mouse that will give reliable service for at least two years ... this is not a problem worth chasing.
If you love this mouse a lot, you can try this to keep it alive a little bit longer: Open the mouse. Buy a can of electronic contact cleaner ($15 or so). Douse the switches really well, let it sit an hour, exercise the buttons, douse the switches again. Problem is, this may solve the immediate problem but it leaves behind lubricants that catch dirt and future problems are guaranteed.

Exactly what I have done too. I have changed the switches & the mouse would work again for a while. But it is too much time wasted on something as cheap as a mouse.

Seth Simmons,
Dr. Klahn,

Don't have another computer to try, no other mouse available, super close, inches apart
Dr. Klahn,
- will run your advice, it its damage, will buy one
jana, i have done this a few times, and to my surprise, it never worked better with new micro switches.
that's my experience.
so i'm thinking right now it has more to do with the new software ( windows 10) programming of the mouse - which may have changed it's timing - because MS concentrates more on handhelds ( swiping and other movements ) instead of mouse
but that is only what i think - and i can be wrong of course

I found a wire mouse, just connected and seems ok (I also have the wireless connected so I am running both to see)

just a follow-up, super strange, I stopped using the wired mouse and disconnected. Then I started using the "problem" wireless mouse and all works ok, no jumping, no double-clicking, etc. - Why would be behaving ok now?

Yes, prior placing the question, I did replaced the batteries to my wireless Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000. But same problem. But why u think its working now? (all I did this morning is connect a wired mouse)

Took apart (well, I had help) the mouse, cleaned it up as much as I can, but what I thought would be the problem, the "clickers" are inaccessible, they are closed off ... besides throwing it away buy a new one, is there a way to check out those clickers if dirty to clean them?
It probably won't be dirt that is causing this, but rather oxidation & wear of the contacts within. You can always try spraying the buttons with contact cleaner spray, it might be able to penetrate down to the contacts. but as has been mentioned, you can get some residue of the spray, & as it is pretty closed, you would have to wait for a very long time to make sure it has all dried out. If it helps, it probably won't last very long. The best option would be to replace the switches, but getting exact replacements can be hard & with all the time used it would probably cost much more than a new mouse.
you need to remove the board - take the screws out like the one in yellow - then unsolder the clickers
i usually swap them for testing

The switches look sealed, but there is a thin recess around the plunger. Shoot contact cleaner into that recess with the tip of the wand right up against the switch.
But it's easier to replace the switches in toto.

I'm waiting for the air can, spray a bit.... if not, then it is hardware (the wired always works)...
However, the wired mouse I did notice after a while started jumping again. I stopped and went back to the temp wire mouse.
It looks like its hardware?
right guys?

Correct. I've seen this happen often, & it isn't always the same, sometimes it looks as if they are OK again, but that is always temporary.

Yeah. Let me air-spray it and comment if any then close the question.
Thanx!
