How do I locked specific cells in excel file that is shared in sharepoint ?

How do I locked specific cells (eg the whole column A) in excel file that is shared in sharepoint ?


I did the following:

Format Cells

Check "Locked"

All other columns UNcheck "Locked"

Protect Sheet 

Added password


However, when i get another user to check, he is unable to type in the other columns that are not locked (ie. uncheck before)


Any idea what went wrong ?
