Hyper-v to VMWare migration
Hi All,
I am looking to migrate my Windows servers from Hyper-v to VMWare.
I've never worked with Hyper-v. So looking to any guides or tips.
I've used VMWare converter in the past, which i was planning on doing again.
Let me know your thoughts.

Great to know. Is it better to do it while they are on or off?
You can not run a converter in the off mode of the VM.
What is the backup setup that exists?
Sone veeam, alters, backup exec, provide for a way to restore the VM on the other platform.
I.e. Hyper-V VM, backed up, restore to a vmeare, or vice versa.

that's the way to do it, and the best recommended method is to install "Converter" in the OS/Guest VM to convert.
If the VM is OFF, how does the application run ?

thanks for the info.
So the recommendation is to install the converter on the VM and convert it instu.
I always thought an off machine would ensure not changes during the copy. There's an off hyper-v option in the converter.

Just seen there is an option to convert hyper-v to vmware while the VM is off. Have you used that option before?

why should you not convert the DC?
It's not recommended and never has, and requires special circumstances and procedures to convert. (if you really must!).
The recommended method is to build a new VM, promote to a DC and transfer the roles.

Ah that's problematic as it was the first server I did.
Thankfully its not showing any signs of issue, but it wasnt in the best state prior to migration. So i'll keep an eye on it.
