Method to clear unread MS Teams app messages on iPhone

On my iPhone Xs running iOS version 15.1 the TEams app always displays the number of new, unread messages through the 11 icon on the Teams icon on the main iPhone screen.

This happens even though I have already read these messages either on my Windows 10 computer or through the Teams app on the iPhone.

This unread messages icon continues to appear even though these messages have already been read.

What can I do to clear this unread number of messages number that appears on the iPhone app so that it will accurately reflect only the number of unread messages that haven't yet been read?

I need to check incoming new Teams messages in a timely manner and it is confusing and frustrating to have this number of unread messages notification display and reflect the wrong number.

I would like to make it so that this number will only display the true number of unread Teams messages.

How can this be done?

hmm, I'm more shocked about your number of unread e-mails...

I've seen people with 10s of thousands of unread emails.

The phone doesn't store too many of the older messages.  If your unread message is older, you might have to go to the computer app to find it and toggle as read, then it should update to your app.

Those email accounts are both unimportant where I receive a lot of spam & distribution list emails.

However, the Microsoft Teams app is connected to my work Teams account and even though I go through the Teams app on my Windows 10 computer and read all of the Teams messages and even though when I scroll through the Teams app on my iPhone and it says that there are no more unread messages the number that appears on the Teams icon on the iPhone is still there.

So I'm hoping to find a way of resolving this issue so that when I'm off work and away from my work computer I can simply look at the Teams icon on my iPhone to see how many (if any) unread Teams messages are waiting for me to read.

Hi,

By default apps are automatically synced every time when accessed, can you please confirm if there is any difference in numbers when accessing MS Teams via Mobile, Web, and Desktop clients.

Not sure if there is any specific option to stop the auto-sync on iOS.
Have you tried re-signing back to MS Teams app on Mobile? it may be also due to Compliance Policy i.,e if the device does not sync within a specific time then it has to sync with the company portal first to meet compliance policy only then devices is authorized to access company data

Yes, there is a big difference.

The Teams app on my Windows 10 computer says that there are only a couple of unread messages (which then get cleared when I read these messages).

However, the number of unread messages that show on the Teams icon on my iPhone always says that there are a lot more unread messages such as 11 or 15 and this number never goes down or disappears even when I read the unread messages.

Also after reading all of the Teams messages I click on the Teams app on my iPhone and even though I don't find any unread messages this number of unread messages that appear on the Teams icon on my iPhone is still there.

I'm trying to fix this issue so that the number of unread messages indicator within the Teams app on my iPhone will always reflect the true number of unread Teams messages.

How can this be done?

Sorry for the delay in updating this question.

When I log on to the web version of MS Teams using the https://teams.microsoft.com/ URL it shows that there are no unread Teams messages.

However, my iPhone continues to display that there are still 6 unread Teams messages.

Does anyone know what can be done to fix this so that the Teams app on my iPhone will display the correct number of unread Teams messages? Or is this simply a glitch or a bug I have to live with?

This is important since while I am out of the office and away from my laptop I need to keep an eye on the Teams app on my iPhone and whenever a new message arrives I need this value to be accurately reflected within the Teams app on my iPhone so I can check on & reply to the new Teams message. I don't want to have to constantly open the Teams app on my iPhone just to see if any new Teams messages have arrived.
