How can I hear someone speaking on an iPhone 6s Plus (Model A1634) without having to turn on the speaker?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I have an unusual problem going on with my fiancee's iPhone 6s Plus (Model A1634).  When someone calls her, they can hear her but she can’t hear them unless she turns on her speaker.  That said, I am wondering how this might can be corrected.  Perhaps there is an app with configurable hardware settings on her iPhone which can be used to correct this issue.

Any troubleshooting suggestions given in reply to this question will be greatly appreciated.

             Thank you very much.

Age of the phone per Jackie's comment?

I did clean the dust net or earpiece with rubbing alcohol and a cue tip.  Unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue.  By the way, it was located on the front side of this phone instead of the backside.   I am not sure why other than it might have something to do with it being an older iPhone.

Thank you very much, Jackie Man, for your follow-up suggestions.  I will move to the next step then use your most recent post.  I do, however, have an important question with regard to using the option of Reset All Settings.  If that option is used, will the data on the iPhone (pictures, videos, etc.) remain intact or will it wipe everything?

George
Reset All Settings will not touch your data.

Data on the iPhone (pictures, videos, etc.) remain intact.

However, Reset all settings will clear all stored passwords, custom ringtones, WiFi networks, bluetooth connections, etc.

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to address my question.  Technically, everyone offered strong solutions.  While they were great ideas, unfortunately, they did not resolve the issue at hand.  The only solution which was not tried at the request of my fiancee was resetting all settings.  She does not want to lose all of her stored passwords which obviously is understandable.   In the back of my mind, I still can not help but wonder if resetting all settings would have fixed this issue.  I guess I can only wonder at this point.  In the meantime, I believe she plans on continuing to use the speakerphone when having conversations.

Thanks so much once again, everyone, for your excellent suggestions and resourceful links.
