OST full and the OST not archived after archive

Hi Expert,

I have a user which he dragged pst mail over to his OST till mailbox full 50GB hence I did archive and the OST still full and the OST didn't archived. My O365 administrator told me that sometime will get archive and sometime won't for a full OST, is this true and OST doing archive should work. Appericate if any expert can advise me on.

Thanks!

The OST is just a cache file of what is on the email server, so it doesn't have a limit.
If user is getting messages about their limit, they will have to eliminate so items in the account, or the administrator will have to increase their limit.

Can you check in exchange management shell if RetentionHoldEnabled is set to $true on that mailbox?
Get-Mailbox "user_mailbox" | Select RetentionHoldEnabled
If it is, you need to disable it.
Set-Mailbox "user_mailbox" -RetentionHoldEnabled $false
and start folder assistant
Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity "user_mailbox"

Thanks for the update . That is not the best practice. If their PST file is that big, they are heading for corrupt file problems. Hopefully you'll be able to get the problem solved properly.
