When installing VMware Workstation Pro on a Windows host, a local group __vmware___ is created. What is the purpose of the local group __vmware__ in a VMware Workstation Pro install.

not sure but appears to be legacy as it appears in vmware workstation 3 documentation from 20 years ago
i see it on my machine but no account is a member. there used to be a user and group but now appears to only be a local group as you see. not much discussion around it about its purpose but appears (long ago) to cause problem uninstalling and reinstalling workstation
