How do I make Power Point Recordings advance in synch with the Animations

I am trying to add some sound recordings to a Power Point Deck. I am recording WITHIN Power Point, which apparently requires me to use the Video even though all I want is the sound.

Problem is, the minute I introduce a SINGLE recording into an animated slide, all of the animation triggers break. There are half a dozen "start on click" objects, but the minute I add a single recording, they all just proceed apace with no regard for clicks.

What am I missing?

Can you post an image of the animation pane? You can drag it to undock and then use Shift+Win+S to snip it.

you can add just audio clips via the Insert tab:

And you might find the new Record experience useful if you're a 365 subscriber:

Here it is. Before and after. When I add the Video (the only Audio options seem to require an external file). No matter where I move the "Trigger" icons, the whole slide just runs in sequence without waiting for the mouse clicks - which are still visible in the "After" pane. Even when I move the double bar trigger item into animation position 2, it still just runs with no user control.
