Hello,
I require some advice on how to place equipment in my 42U rack. We are a small office. The room where the rack is located is very small and only has space for one rack.
Below is the layout that I have come up with, but just wanted to know if the order of my equipment is workable.
Some additional information:
*Patch Panel 1 consists of the drops for the users data and HPBX connections for their desks as well as a few data drops for our conference rooms.
*Patch Panel 2 consists of the data ports from our providers (ISP's, Telco etc).
*From slots 23 and down would be used for any heavy equipment we may get in the future (SAN, Servers etc).
*The redundancy switches will not have any connections going to them and will only be there in the event the primary Stack or Core Switches malfunction. So then I can just reroute the patch cables to them.
Can you kindly review and advise if my current layout is workable. Or should I switch a few things around?
Appreciate your time.
Kind Regards,
K
Mount modular CAT6/CAT7 series RJ45 patch panels in the wall rack. Terminate _all_ cables there. Why? Because, running patch into the rack enclosure is preferable. If there's ever a need to move the org, the cabinet, or do cable work having things modular is key. BTDT Don't put cable runs into the rack enclosure.
I suggest a 24U enclosure like the following:

It's portable. It's easy to move about when the need arises. All four sides doors/panels are removable.
Put the UPS system(s) in the bottom then rack the switches top down then put any servers or server services boxes in between the two.
We'd put a 1U shelf between the UPS and the sensitive equipment to provide a blast and fire barrier:

Yeah, BTDT too.
